  13. Hardware requirements: Origen requires 640K and DOS 3.3 or higher.  
  14. TSRs must not be resident.  Files should be set to 25 and buffers to 10.  
  15. A minimum of two megabytes of storage is needed on the file server or 
  16. hard drive.

  18. ORIGEN DEMO

  20. *  Unzip the files in ORIDEMO.ZIP and copy them to a hard drive, network 
  21. drive or on to a high density floppy diskette. Make the drive\directory with
  22. the files your current drive\directory, type ORIDEMO and press Enter.
  23.  
  24. To appreciate the steps that Origen completes during the logical configuration 
  25. of your file server, open the program and choose Configure from the main menu, 
  26. then Execute.  This is a simulated configuration of a file server.  You are 
  27. reading the messages that Origen generates during Execution, but the demo 
  28. will NOT configure your file server, overwrite your login script, or assign 
  29. trustee rights.

  31. Like the real program, once the demo has simulated the logical configuration 
  32. of your server, it locks all options except Reports, Transfer/Export, and 
  33. Configure/Undo.  To examine the rest of the Origen options, choose Undo.  
  34. Examine the Origen menu options, adding to, deleting, or changing the demo 
  35. data that was included on the disk.

  37. 1.      SYSTEM menu:   Set File Server Defaults.  Import and edit Login Script 
  38.                        template.
  39.  
  40. 2.      GROUP menu:    Create workgroups and application groups.  Assign 
  41.                        trustee rights.
  42.  
  43. 3.      USER menu:     Add users and assign them to groups.
  44.  
  45. 4.      REPORTS menu:  Review report onscreen or print.  Customize title page 
  46.                        of reports.
  47.  
  48. 5.      TRANSFER menu: Use Export to back up the server configuration to 
  49.                        another drive.
  50.  
  51. 6.      CONFIGURE menu:  Execute server.  Go to the reports menu to check the 
  52.                          ORIGEN.LOG and PASSWORD.LOG.  After you Undo, check 
  53.                          the UNDO.LOG.

  55. LIFETIME DOCUMENTATION -- READING THE BINDERY
  56.  
  57. Origen reads an existing file server's bindery even if the server was not 
  58. initially configured with Origen, and produces reports documenting the 
  59. existing server: groups, users, trustee rights, group configuration, and file 
  60. server defaults.

  62. 1.      Type BIND2ORI and press Enter.  Your userid and default server will 
  63.         display in the upper right corner of the screen.

  65. 2.      SELECTIONS menu: 
  66.  
  67. Choose which server to read.  The menu box lists the attached servers where 
  68. you have supervisor rights.  
  69.  
  70. Mark Groups on the selected server as Application Group or Work Group, or Not 
  71. Selected (in which case Origen does not record information about the group's 
  72. trustee assignments).  You MUST enter this menu and press <F10> to confirm 
  73. your choices (even if you accept the defaults), in order to read the server's 
  74. bindery.

  76. Specify Output: Type the directory path where files should be stored.  If 
  77. Origen export files are already stored there, you will be asked if you want to 
  78. overwrite them.

  80. Execute: Execute when all values for server, groups, destination path, and 
  81. filters if any, have been selected.

  83. 3.      FILTERS menu: Origen automatically skips each user's home directory 
  84. and mail directory, but you can add filters to screen out other trustee rights, 
  85. such as every user's access to an electronic mail system.

  87. 4.      RESULTS menu: You may view or print the BIND2ORI.LOG.  We recommend 
  88. that you import the files created by reading the bindery into Origen, for 
  89. reports that document your groups, users, trustee rights, group configuration, 
  90. and file server defaults.

  92. This is a simulated reading of a file server bindery.  The Origen demo program 
  93. is limited to recording the first five users and the first five groups found 
  94. on the selected server.
